In the case of citations with three or five authors, for the first time the surnames are cited, all of them must be mentioned. The subsequent citations it must be mentioned only the surname of the first co-author followed by the Latin expression “et al.”. Some examples are seen below:

For the first time the authors are cited: Plass, Freitas, Ortiz, Lima e Pires, 2004 or (Plass, Freitas, Ortiz, Lima & Pires, 2005).

Azevedo, Menezes e Meyer (1999) or (Azevedo, Menezes & Meyer, 1999).

The following citations:

Plass et al. (2005) or (Plass et al., 2005).

Azevedo et al. (2005) or (Azevedo et al., 2005).

P.S.: In the final list of reference, it must appear the names of all the authors.

In the case of citations with six or more authors, only make the bibliographical reference of the first reference followed by the Latin expression “et al.”. Ex.: Bicudo et al. (1967) or (Bicudo et al., 1967).

In the final list of references, cite the surname of the six first authors and abbreviate the seventh author and the subsequent surnames (if there are), using the Latin expression “et al.”. E.g.: Bicudo, V. L., Marcondes, D., Uchôa, D. de M., Gill, M. J, Melsohn, I., Paiva, L. M. de et al. (1967). Édipo Rei: comentários sobre a peça Édipo Rei. Revista Ide, 1(2), 218-239.

In citations of various authors involving the same idea, it is needed to obey the alphabetical order of the surnames. E.g.: Badaines (1976), Biller (1968, 1969) or (Badaines, 1976; Biller, 1968, 1969).

In the case of documents with different data of publication and the same author, cite the surname of the author and the years of publication in a chronological order. E.g.: Merleau-Ponty (1942, 1960, 1966) or (Merleau-Ponty, 1942, 1960, 1966).

In citations of documents with the same date of publication and the same author it is needed to add small letters after the year of publication. E.g.: Rogers (1973a, 1973b, 1973c) or (Rogers, 1973a, 1973b, 1973c).

Documents in which the author is a collective entity, it must be cited the non-abbreviated surname of the entity following the year of the publication. E.g.: American Psychological Association (2001) or (American Psychological Association, 2001).

In the case of literal transcription of a text, it must be delimited by double inverted commas, followed by the surname of the author, date and page that is cited.

P.S.: In a testimonial citation or the transcription of an interview, the speeches must appear in italic adding the other indications to textual citations.

6.1.7. Homepage or Website citation

If it is possible It is needed to cite the electronic address between round brackets after the information. E.g.: (www.bvs-psi.org.br).

P.S.: It is not needed to list in an isolated way the references at the end of the texts.

6.1.8. Punctuation and spelling of the textual citation

The cited text must reproduce the punctuation and the spelling adopted by the author present in the consulted document.

6.2. Footnotes

Footnotes must be avoided whenever it is possible. They must be always presented in the footnote of the same page (not presented at the end of the article). To indicate footnotes along the text, it is necessary to use the Arabic numbers in a sequence, just after the sentence in which the footnote is linked.

Bibliographical information must be presented in the references, not in footnotes.

6.3. References

They are presented at the end of the article, constituting a list headed by the title “References”. They must be organized in an alphabetical order, according to the last surname of the author. If there is more than one author, the organization obeys the chronological order of the publication.
