INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

 

Manuscript evaluation

Psico is a quarterly peer-reviewed journal that assures publication of original research papers and systematic reviews in the field of Psychological Science, particularly focusing on studies and experiments of cognitive psychology, social psychology, developmental psychology, health psychology, clinical psychology, neuropsychology and psychobiology. The policy of the journal is to consider articles that clearly applied research methods in Psychology and whose primary focus is to contribute to the advance of Psychological Science.

Peer review process

Manuscripts submitted to Psico are initially evaluated by the by the Editorial Board with regard to conformity with the journal’s scope and editorial line. If the paper is considered in accordance with the editorial policies and with the present Instructions for Authors, it will be submitted to review by at least two blind independent expert reviewers. All reviewers are requested to return to Editors their decision within 60 days, then the authors are informed of either the acceptance, rejection, or need for revisions in the article, as requested by the Editorial Board.

Open acess policy

This journal provides open access to all of its content, on the principle that making scientific research freely available to the public supports greatest global exchange of knowledge. Such access is associated with increased readership and citation of an author's work.Further information about this approach can be found at Public Knowledge Project. All content of the journal, except where identified, is licensed under a Creative Commons attribution type (CC BY) , which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original publication is properly cited.

 

Archiving

This journal utilizes the LOCKSS system to create a distributed file system among participating libraries and allows them to create permanent archives of the journal for the preservation and restoration. Learn more...

 

Language

Preference will be given to manuscripts written in English, but manuscripts written in Portuguese or Spanish may also be submitted. Only manuscripts written in clear and understandable language will be sent to peer review.

 

Ethical Considerations

Authors of reports on human studies should consider the ethical issues related to the work presented and include (in the Methods and Materials section of their manuscript) detailed information on the informed consent process, including the method or methods used to assess the subject's capacity to give informed consent, and safeguards included in the study design for protection of human subjects.

Specifically, authors should consider all ethical issues relevant to their research, and briefly address each of these in their reports. Investigators reporting on research involving human subjects or animals must have prior approval from an institutional review board or Ethical Comitee. This approval should be mentioned in the methods section of the manuscript. In countries where institutional review boards are not available; the authors must include a statement that research was conducted in accordance with the Helsinki Declaration as revised 1989.

All studies involving animals must state that the authors followed the guidelines for the use and care of laboratory animals of the author's institution or the National Research Council or any national law pertaining to animal research care. This journal is a member of, and subscribes to the principles of, the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

 

Conflict of interest

All authors must disclose any financial and personal relationships with other people or organizations that could inappropriately influence (bias) their work. Examples of potential conflicts of interest include employment, consultancies, stock ownership, honoraria, paid expert testimony, patent applications/registrations, and grants or other funding. If there are no conflicts of interest then please state that there are no conflicts of interest.

Instructions for authors

House Style

The Journal adopts the APA editorial style - American Psychological Association, 6th edition.

Article Processing Charges policy

This journal does not require article processing charges (APCs).

Registration and login are required to submit items online and to check the status of current submissions.

Manuscripts should be submitted electronically to the PSICO submission site

Manuscript Submission:

Manuscript must be submitted in Microsoft Word format.

Documents must be submitted in three separate electronic files, following the specific requirements for each file:

Manuscript File: submitted to the “main document” field, “Title” of the manuscript in English (followed by its Portuguese and Spanish versions), the “Abstract” in English Portuguese (followed by its and Spanish versions), “Keywords” written in those three languages and, after that, the “Body” of the manuscript. This file must not include any identification of the author(s)

2. The Identification Sheet must be submitted in the “supplementary documents” field. It must have the full name(s) of the author(s), as well as his/her academic title, institutional affiliation, email and full address of the author(s) for contact.

3. The Cover Letter, must also be entered in the “supplementary documents” field, and signed by all the authors, in PDF format. Available in two models, depending on the publication category:

1— Research report;

2 — Systematic literary reviews.

 

Manuscript Preparation

The Manuscript File must meet the formatting requirements:

Abstract and Keywords

The Title, Abstract and Keywords must be in the beginning of the manuscript, written in English, Portuguese, (abstract/keywords) and Spanish (resumen/palabras clave), and maintain fidelity to the original text.

 

Title

The Title is limited to 15 words, in uppercase.

 

Abstract

The abstract is limited to 150 words (or 960 characters including punctuation and spaces).

The research report abstract must include: contextualization of the theme and problem, characteristics of the sample, instruments used for data collection, procedures, results and conclusions.

The systematic literary review abstract must present the thematic scope, objectives, method and main results and conclusions An abstract is not necessary in the book review category.

Keywords

Keywords are limited to five (5), separated by semicolon (;) and must be in accordance to the Psychology terminology, available in three languages at BVS-Psi (Brazil Virtual Health Library in Psychology).

 

Body of the Manuscript

Size: up to 18 A4 pages, including the list of references and attachments (not including the title and abstract page), Times New Roman font size 12, 1.5 line spacing. All page margins (top, bottom, right and left margins) should be 2.5 cm. The entire text alignment must be justified. Page number alignment must be on the upper-right-hand corner.

Tables, Images and Attachments must be presented in separate pages (one per page) at the end of the manuscript, and their locations must be indicated in the text.

The author is responsible for the quality of the images (drawings, illustrations, graphics), which must be able to be reduced without losing quality (resolution), to one or two column sizes, since the landscape format is not allowed. Digital images must have the JEPG file extension and minimum resolution of 600 DPI.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
