Guidelines for Authors
The Revista da SBPH adopts the standards of the “Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association” (APA) – 7th edition (2020). Submitted manuscripts must meet the ethical and style standards of this Manual.
The publication also adopts the "Recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journals", of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and strongly encourages authors to develop their articles based on these recommendations..

Languages
Manuscripts must be written in Portuguese, English, Spanish or French.
After approval of scientific merit, the authors undertake to provide language review of the article and abstract in both languages ​​of publication, with due certification.

Submission
At the time of submission, authors must:

• choose the section to which the manuscript is intended (more information below).
• read carefully and check whether all requirements for submitting the manuscript have been met, under the risk of having the submission denied.
• accept the terms of the editorial and reproduction policy of the manuscript.
• prepare and submit the manuscript's cover page (more details below).
• fill in the metadata: title; abstract; list of authors; keywords (controlled descriptors); and references.
• Note: when applicable, a copy of the opinion of the Research Ethics Committee must be submitted when submitting the manuscript.

Cover page template
The cover page is a complementary document to the submission.
Cover page information:

• title of the work in Portuguese and English (up to 90 characters with spaces).
• name and institutional affiliation (name of the institution in full) of each of the authors.
• information on institutional support (if any).
• information on financial support (if any).
• identification of the author for contact (name and e-mail), and
• other observations that the authors deem necessary.

Guidelines on filling in the metadata:

• the title may have up to 90 characters with spaces and, necessarily, the fields must be filled in Portuguese and English.
• abstracts may have up to 300 words and, necessarily, the fields must be filled in Portuguese and English.
• the list of co-authors must include all authors of the text, in order of authorship, starting with the first author, and indicating the contact author.
• three (minimum) to five (maximum) controlled descriptors (keywords) are accepted, necessarily in Portuguese and English. The publication strongly recommends using the controlled terms of Terminologia em Psicologia, from the Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde – Psicologia. .

Guidelines for the preparation and formatting of manuscripts
Considering the length of the texts, according to the chosen section:

• the manuscript must be completely anonymized, without any information that could identify who the authors of the work are (names, affiliations, acknowledgments), neither on the first page, nor in the body of the text, nor in footnotes or endnotes.
• the line spacing is 1.5, with a paragraph of 1.25 cm.
• the alignment is justified.
• titles and subtitles should be in bold and numbered progressively.
• highlights in the text should be in bold.
• the use of italics is restricted to foreign words.

Tables, figures and appendices
Tables, figures and appendices should have callouts in the body of the text. Tables and figures should be inserted close to the first mention of these elements. Appendixes should be included at the end of the manuscript, after the references, but their publication will be evaluated and may not be authorized.
The words "Table", "Figure" and "Appendix" that appear in the text must always be written with the first letter capitalized and must be accompanied by the number (for tables and figures) or letter (for appendices) to which they refer. Expressions such as "the table above" or "the figure below" should not be used because, in the editing process, their location may change. APA standards (2020, 7th edition) do not include the naming of charts or graphs, only tables and figures.

Tables must be created in Word or Excel. In the case of graphical presentations of tables, preferably use columns, avoiding other forms of presentation such as pie charts, etc. The word "Table" is aligned to the left in the first line below the header and followed by the number corresponding to the table. Double-space and type the title of the table on the left, in italics and without a full stop, with the first letter of each word capitalized. They should not exceed 17.5 cm in width by 23.5 cm in length.
Figures should be in JPG format. They should not exceed 17.5 cm in width by 23.5 cm in length. The word “Figure” is left-aligned on the first line below the header and followed by the corresponding figure number. Double-space the figure title on the left, in italics and without a period, with the first letter of each word capitalized.

References and citations
All works used to prepare the manuscript must be cited in the body of the text and referenced at the end, in accordance with the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (2020, 7th Edition) standards.

Examples of citations in the body of the manuscript:
The examples below help organize your manuscript, but they certainly do not exhaust the possibilities for citing in your work. Use the “Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association” (2020, 7th Edition) to check the standards for other references.

• Citation of an article with multiple authors

Article with two authors: cite both names whenever the article is referenced:
Magtaz and Berlinck (2012) refer to the theme of orality in melancholy [...]
The issue of orality in melancholy (Magtaz & Berlink, 2012) [...]
Article with three or more authors: cite only the first author followed by et al.
Santos et al. (2003)

• Citations of old and republished works

According to Foucault (1980/2011) [...]

In the References section, cite:

• Direct quotations

Direct quotations of less than 40 words should be incorporated into the text paragraph, between quotation marks, including the page number from which the quotation was taken.
Quotations of more than 40 words should appear without quotation marks in a paragraph in block format, with each line indented 1.25 cm from the left margin, including the page number from which the quotation was taken.
Quotations of more than 500 words, reproduction of one or more figures, tables or other illustrations must have written permission from the copyright holder of the original work for reproduction. Permission should be addressed to the author of the submitted work. Secondarily obtained rights will not be transferred under any circumstances.
Direct quotations must be accurate, even if there are errors in the original. If this happens and there is a risk of confusing the reader, add the word [sic], in italics and in square brackets, immediately after the error.
Omission of material from an original source should be indicated by three periods within square brackets [...].
The insertion of material, such as comments or observations, should be placed in square brackets.
Emphasis on one or more words should be placed in bold font, followed by [our emphasis].
Excerpts containing statements by patients and interviewees (verbatim, testimonies) should be in italics and in quotation marks, in the same manner as citations with more than 40 words.
[sic] should only be added, in italics and in square brackets, when there is an expression that could cause ambiguity.
Attention: do not use the terms "apud", "op. cit", "id. ibidem" and others. They are not part of the APA standards (2020, 7th edition).

References
Only works consulted and mentioned in the text should appear in this section.
Use double spacing and do not leave an extra space between referenced works.
References should be cited in alphabetical order by the authors' last name, in accordance with APA standards (see some examples below). Use the “Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association” (2020, 7th edition) to check for standards not mentioned here.
In cases of reference to multiple studies by the same author, use chronological order: from the oldest study to the most recent. Author names should not be replaced by dashes or hyphens.

Annexes

Should be avoided whenever possible and added only if they contain information considered essential, such as unpublished tests, descriptions of complex equipment or materials.
Annexes should be:

• indicated in the body of the text, identified by capital letters (A, B, C, and so on).
• included at the end of the manuscript, after the references.
• presented each on a new page.

Endnotes

Should be avoided whenever possible, however, if there is no other possibility, they should be indicated by Arabic numerals in the text and presented after the annexes

Types of published work: guidelines on structure and length

Original Research Articles
Research based on empirical data, with structured writing: introduction (objective), methodology, results, discussion, conclusions and references.
Length: up to 8 thousand words, including references.
Submit a new article to the Original Research Articles section.

Critical and systematic literature review articles
Critical investigation of scientific literature, presenting the state of the art of scientific knowledge on a given topic.
Length: up to 10,000 words, including references.
Submit a new article to the Critical and systematic literature review articles section.

Quantitative or qualitative research reports
Analysis of quantitative or qualitative methodologies, with possible presentation of new methodological approaches or changes in existing methodologies.
Length: up to 6,000 words, including references.
Submit a new article to the Quantitative or qualitative research reports section.

Professional experience reports
Presentation of professional experience, with theoretical reflection and structured writing: introduction with identification of the case or cases; method used in conducting the case or cases; clinical discussion; theoretical reflection.
Length: up to 6,000 words, including references.
If the experience report presents clinical cases (directly or indirectly mentioned), specific issues of health and educational institutions and teams, data from medical records and other data derived from various research studies, it must be accompanied by prior approval by the responsible Ethics Committee, which must be in the name of one of the authors of the manuscript.
The publication may also request a STATEMENT OF ACCOUNTABILITY from the health and educational institution where the experience report was written.
This documentation must be included in the system, when submitting the manuscript, as a SUPPLEMENTARY DOCUMENT.

Guidelines for evaluation
When evaluating this manuscript, please pay attention to the following points:
(a) whether the topic of the work is relevant and interesting to the scientific community in the field of psychology.
(b) whether the approach to the topic is original.
(c) whether the title, abstract and keywords are clear, concise and representative of the content of the work.
(d) whether the work clearly presents its objective, methodology, results achieved and the discussion of these results.
(e) whether the work presents theoretical consistency and whether there is clarity in the identification and explanation of the theories used.
(f) whether the results and discussions presented in the work respond to the objectives proposed by the author(s), and
(g) whether the references are relevant to the topic studied, have scientific relevance, are up to date and duly identified.

Important notes:
(a) please inform the responsible editor about the existence of possible conflicts of interest.
(b) the opinion and its comments will be shared with the authors of the manuscript, anonymously.
