The odissey of the sunset revisited

Resumo Tomando como mote a ideia de uma “lanterna na popa” desenvolvo uma tentativa de compreensão do que as experiências, tanto na vida como na clínica psicanalítica, podem nos oferecer com sua iluminação retrospectiva: não é ciência e saber, mas uma certa sabedoria para navegar na escuridão e na incerteza.

Abstract Taking as a motto the idea of a “lantern at the stern” I develop an attempt to understand what the experiences, both in life and in the psychoanalytic clinic, can offer us with their retrospective illuminations: it’s no Science and knowledge, but a certain wisdom to navigate darkness and uncertainty.

Hyperconnectivity and self-cancellation: the self in times of excess

Resumo A autora recorta o movimento psíquico que nomeia como autocancelamento, escutado e manejado na clínica psicanalítica, e o discute no contexto da hiperconectividade característica da atual sociedade pós-moderna. Os efeitos de sobrecarga para o narcisismo contemporâneo são pensados articulando sintomas sociais e individuais, um episódio de Black mirror utilizado como alegoria, além de bibliografia psicanalítica e sociológica.

Abstract The author highlights the psychic movement that she names as self-cancellation, heard and managed in the psychoanalytic clinic, and discusses it in the context of the hyperconnectivity characteristic of current postmodern society. The overload effects of contemporary narcissism are thought of as articulating social and individual symptoms, linked to an episode of Black mirror as an allegory, in addition to psychoanalytic and sociological bibliography.

Well-being in civilization?

Resumo O mal-estar psíquico que se observa na vida civilizada não é provocado pela cultura em si, mas por contradições internas da nossa própria estrutura mental inata, que contém predisposições comportamentais opostas aos instintos primatas, predisposições estas que foram assimiladas geneticamente, por seleção natural, durante a ocupação das savanas pelos nossos ancestrais. A polarização política direita-esquerda, que ameaça as democracias contemporâneas, também é um exemplo de manifestação dessas predisposições inatas contraditórias.

Abstract The psychic malaise that is observed in civilized life is not caused by culture itself, but by internal contradictions of our own innate mental structure, which contains behavioral predispositions opposed to the primate instincts, predispositions that have been genetically assimilated, by natural selection, during the occupation of the savannahs by our ancestors. The right-left political polarization, which threatens contemporary democracies, is also an example of a manifestation of these contradictory innate predispositions.

Fanaticism and fulfillment: short stories

Resumo Fatores vinculados ao comportamento fanático são apresentados através de ficções baseadas em fatos mais ou menos reais. Especulações imaginativas sobre os mitos de Narciso e do Paraíso somam-se à descrição de personagens e situações tais como atentados terroristas, mulher-bomba, bullying, supostos heróis, famosinhas, seitas religiosas, suicídios e homicídios. Propõe-se que o fanático considera o Paraíso um fetiche que substitui a falta terrífica. O comportamento fanático no campo analítico é ilustrado por meio de uma vinheta clínica.

Abstract Factors linked to fanatical behavior are presented through fictions based on more or less real facts. Imaginative speculations about the myths of Narcissus and Paradise are added to the description of characters and situations such as terrorist attacks, suicide bombers, bullying, supposed heroes, celebrities, religious sects, suicides and homicides. It is proposed that the fanatic regards Paradise as a fetish that replaces the terrifying lack. Fanatic behavior in the analytical field is illustrated through a clinical vignette.

Hypnosis, fascism and psychoanalysis: reflections based on the novel Mario and the magician, by Thomas Mann, and afterword by Marcus Mazzari

Resumo Com base na novela de Thomas Mann Mário e o mágico e no posfácio “A hipnose do fascismo”, de Marcus Mazzari, a autora apresenta algumas contribuições vindas da psicanálise, centradas em Freud, Bion e Klein, para refletir a respeito dos fenômenos da hipnose e dos grupos, da massa e do fascismo. Tece semelhanças entre eles e aponta para o profundo intrincamento que existe entre o mais íntimo e inconsciente do indivíduo e os fenômenos grupais e de massa, o que permite iluminar a adesão a movimentos de massa fascistas e a submissão a líderes fascistas.

Abstract Based on the novel by Thomas Mann Mário e o mágico and the afterword Hipnosis e fascismo by Marcus Mazzari, the author presents some contributions from psychoanalysis, with Freud, Bion and Klein, to reflect on the phenomena of hypnosis, of groups and mass and the fascism. She weaves similarities between them and points to the deep intricacy that exists between the most intimate and unconscious of the individual and the group and mass phenomena, which allow to illuminate the adhesion to fascist mass movements and the submission to fascist leaders.

The war: why and for what?

Resumo O ensaio tece considerações sobre a guerra e suas razões de ser, fazendo ligações entre história e psicanálise. A hipótese é que o impasse da lógica que rege a guerra é a razão pela qual a história escrita deu os seus primeiros passos. E isso porque a guerra rompe com o pacto civilizatório, o único que permite o convívio de seres humanos em um grupo. A grande questão surge quando a lógica desse impasse se refere ao conflito entre nações. Como exemplo peculiar, tomamos a história do conflito entre israelenses e palestinos.

Abstract The essay considers war and its reasons for being, making connections between history and psychoanalysis. The hypothesis is that the impasse of the logic that governs war is the reason why written history took its first steps. And this is because war breaks the civilizational pact, the only one that allows human beings to live together in a group. The big question arises when the logic of this impasse refers to the conflict among nations. As a particular example, we take the history of the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians.

Meltzer and the Initial Mind

Resumo Este texto propõe divulgar alguns aspectos das contribuições de Meltzer reveladas em seus escritos com ênfase em sua clínica abordando o trabalho com crianças e a mente inicial. A autora comenta também sua experiência de supervisão com Meltzer que a estimulou, entre outros, por exemplo, a escrever o trabalho “Intervenções terapêuticas conjuntas pais-crianças” (1998).

Abstract This text aims to highlight some aspects of Meltzer’s contributions revealed in his writings, with an emphasis on his clinical work with children and the initial mind. The author also discusses her supervision experience with Meltzer, which encouraged her, among other things, to write the paper “Intervenções terapêuticas conjuntas pais-crianças” (1998).

Traumas and adoptions - Comments on the movie My father’s violin

Resumo Aspectos relativos a temas como trauma, adoção e orfandade são abordados neste trabalho com base na análise do filme O violino de meu pai. A história de uma menina órfã e de seu tio, também órfão a seu modo, é desenvolvida numa trama viva e emocionante. Podemos observar como a adoção mútua entre os personagens se constrói paulatinamente e permite que defesas maníacas intensas possam ser substituídas por elos afetivos profundos.

Abstract Aspects related to themes such as trauma, adoption and orphanhood are addressed in this paper based on the analysis of the film My father’s violin. The story of an orphan girl and her uncle, also an orphan in his own way, is developed in a lively and exciting plot. We can observe how the mutual adoption between the characters builds gradually and allows intense manic defenses to be replaced by deep affective links.
