El presente artículo analiza el desarrollo y estado actual de la psicología en América Latina a la luz de la situación económica, política y social del continente. Se discute el peligro de las escisiones y los mimetismos, así como de una inadecuada construcción de la identidad profesional. Se defiende la necesidad de integración entre los psicólogos latinoamericanos.

This work analyzes the development and current state of psychology in Latín America from the point of view of the economical, política¡ and social situation in the continent. The danger of divisions, mimetisms an inadequate construction of professional identity is discussed. The author suggest that it is necessary an integration among latinoamerican psychologists.

The combined group therapy as an alternative for alcohol addiction treatment

El en presente trabajo, se exponen algunas experiencias y reflexiones en cuanto al empleo de la Terapia Grupal Combinada como una alternativa en el tratamiento del alcoholismo. Este modelo terapéutico, lo empleamos inicialmente en el tratamiento del tabaquismo, y en los momentos actuales estudiamos su comportamiento y efectividad en pacientes alcohólicos.

In this paper, the author presents some of their experiences and reflections about the use of the Combined Groupal Therapy as an alternative for alcoholic addiction treatment. This therapeutic model has been studied in the tobacco addition treatment. At this mooment it's been studied the effectivennes of the models in the treatment of alcoholics patients.

Do you suffer insomnia?

En el trabajo se presenta una breve caracterización del insomnio donde se resaltan sus causas más frecuentes, se ofrecen los resultados de una investigación efectuada con 25705 sujetos y, finalmente, se señalan diversas medidas preventivas y procedimientos terapéuticos.

Throught this work it is presented a brief characterization of insomnia. Initially, it is pointed out its predominante causes, prevalence, etc. Finally, there are shown some of the results obtained in a study with 25705 subjects and there are presented different preventive measures and therapeutic procedures.

Integration in our environment of psychosocial factors in rehabilitation and adjustment of motor-physical handicapeds

Este material expone conceptos básicos dentro de la Psicología de la Rehabilitación. Destaca la importancia fundamental de los factores psicosociales en el proceso de rehabilitación que llevan al ajuste en el paciente impedido e incluye además un grupo de proposiciones al respecto. Analiza también los factores psicosociales presentes en nuestro medio que influyen en la rehabilitación para un mejor manejo del paciente impedido o discapacitado sobre los que finalmente deja varias conclusiones.

This material expose basics concepts in Psychology Rehabilitation. To emphasize the fundamental importante of psychosocial factors in the Rehabilitation process to take to adjustment in the handicapped spatient and too a group of propositions it this matter. It analize too the psychosocial factors presents in our environment that have influence in the Rehabilitation for the best treatment of handicapped patient or misfortune about that leave finally some conclusions.

Validation of pain Discomfort scale of Jensen and Karoly in cuban patients

La Pain Discomfort Scale (P.D.S.) desarrollada y validada por Jensen y Karoly (E.U., 1991) es un instrumento de 10 ítems que permite medir la dimensión afectiva del dolor sin las limitaciones psicométricas y prácticas de los pocos métodos existentes a tales fines. Con el objetivo de introducirla y utilizarla en nuestro país, la escala se tradujo al español y fue adaptada de acuerdo al criterio de un grupo de psicólogos expertos en la temática, sometiéndola, posteriormente, a un estudio de validación. La consistencia interna de la escala de 10 ítems resultó baja por lo cual se sometió a análisis con vistas a determinar los ítems que más contribuían y eliminar aquellos que no alcanzaban establecer diferencias en relación con el comportamiento del paciente ante el dolor. Se (legó a una versión final de 6 ítems llamada "Escala de Malestar por Dolor" (E.M.D.) y se realizó su validación. La consistencia interna de esta escala sí resultó buena y los análisis de correlación y factorial hablaron también a su favor, demostrándose así su validez y confiabilidad.

The Pain Discomfort Scale developed and validated by Jensen and Karoly (USA, 1991) is an instrument of 10 ítems which allows the measurement of the affective dimension of pain without the psichometric and practical limitations of the few existing methods devoted to these purposes. In order to introduce and apply it in our country, the scale was translated finto Spanish and adapted according to the criterion of a group of psychologists experts in this topic, later it went through a validation study. The infernal consistency of the 10 ítems scale was low so it was submitted to an analysis to determine the ítems that contributed more and elimínate those that didn't establish differences in relation to patient's behavior in presente of pain. A final 6 ítems version called "Escala de malestar por Dolor" (E.M.D.) was achieved and its validation performed. The infernal consistency of this scale was good indeed and the correlation and factorial analyses supported this opinion, proving its validity and reliability.

Towards a continental approach about psychologist professional training

Este trabajo es una contribución a la búsqueda de acuerdos para el diseño de los curriculum para la formación de psicólogos en las universidades iberoamericanas. Partiendo del conocido modelo de Boulder y Vail, se discuten los objetivos, el contenido y las estrategias didácticas del ciclo de "formación científica básica" de forma de obtener la máxima unidad posible (y necesaria) en el diseño del curriculum sin perjuicio de particularidades nacionales o de preferencias teóricas.*

This paper is a contribution to the search of a common basis for designing curriculum for the psychologist professional training in iberoamerican universities. Taking as a starting point the well known Boulder and Va¡¡ curriculum model, a proposal of objectives, contenta and didactic strategies for the "scientific basic cycle" in order to accomplish the maximun unity possible (and necessary) in curriculum design without damage to particular national demands or theoretical preferentes, is discused.

González Martín: marxism and psychism sciences

En el articulo se expone brevemente la vida y la obra de quien consideramos el iniciador en Cuba de un enfoque marxista en las ciencias del psiquismo (psiquiatría, psicología y neurofisiología): el Doctor en Ciencias Diego González Martín.

The article presents a brief overview of the life and work of Doctor Diego González Martín, the first man in Cuba lo approach psychism sciences (psychiatric, psychology and neurophysiology) from a Marxist perspective.
