Abstract

OLIVEIRA, Anselmo Carvalho de. The principle of equal consideration of similar interests in peter singer's pratical ethics. Barbaroi [online]. 2011, n.34, pp.210-225. ISSN 0104-6578.

Peter Singer establishes an ethical principle to found the equality between sentient human and non-human beings. His reflections on the principle of equal consideration of similar interests and their practical implications, however, challenge the understanding of traditional ethics to defend the animals as members of the moral community, the morality of abortion, infanticide and euthanasia. This article seeks, through a revision of the bibliography, rebuild the argumentation of Singer, specifically in the book Pratical Ethics, to assess the scope of this principle in ethics.

Keywords : Pratical ethics; Utilitarianism; Peter Singer.
