Abstract

FORTES, Isabel. Marguerite Duras and the writing of the feminine. Psyche (Sao Paulo) [online]. 2007, vol.11, n.21, pp.161-174. ISSN 1415-1138.

The article deals with a possible common ground between psychoanalysis and literature. Starting from Marguerite Duras’s work, we can extend the theoretical thinking about the feminine in psychoanalytical theory, particularly the way it is presented in Freud’s and Lacan’s theories. While in psychoanalysis the feminine belongs to the realm of the non effable, lacking a significant of its own, and therefore can only be formulated negatively (woman as not-entirely phallic) Duras’s literary writing comes close to a possible way to formulate the feminine.

Keywords : Femininity; Castration; No-totalizing logic; Marguerite Duras; Feminine writing.
