Abstract

IVANOVICH, Ana Carolina Friggi  and  GESSER, Marivete. People with disabilities and social justice: the creation of a council of rights. Rev. psicol. polít. [online]. 2023, vol.23, n.56, pp.57-74.  Epub May 27, 2024. ISSN 2175-1390.

This study aimed to investigate the meanings of participation in the creation and implementation of a Municipal Council of Rights for people with disabilities, with emphasis on the transformative power resulting from this process. Information was obtained from semi-structured interviews conducted with nine people who participated in the creation and implementation of the Council and analyzed based on the analysis of the meaning processes. The research was based on the dialogue between the Ethical-Political Psychology proposed by Bader Sawaia and the emancipatory research perspective of Disability Studies. The results indicated that the process of creation and implementation of the Council of Rights contributed to: the appropriation of the field of Disability Studies; knowledge of disability legislation; the criticism of welfare and objectifying practices of disability; the transformation of the subjectivity of people with disabilities and their constitution as active political subjects in the fight for social justice.
