Abstract

GOMES, Cristiano Mauro Assis. Factorial structure of Higher-Order cognitive Factors Kit. Aval. psicol. [online]. 2010, vol.9, n.3, pp.449-459. ISSN 1677-0471.

This paper presents an initial study on the construct validity of the Higher-Order Cognitive Factors Kit (BaFaCAlO) in terms of its factor structure. It analyzes the responses of 292 high school students from a federal school of Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. The exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and the structural equation modeling were employed to verify the factorial structure of this battery. The selected solution had an adequate data fit (χ2 = 169.67, df = 122, CFI = 0.98, RMSEA = 0.04). The results show that BaFaCAlO measures six high-order abilities (fluid intelligence, crystallized intelligence, visual-spatial ability, short-term memory, cognitive speed and fluency) as well as g. Some implications of this result are pointed out and discussed.
