Abstract

MECCA, Tatiana Pontrelli; ANTONIO, Daniela Aguilera Moura; SEABRA, Alessandra Gotuzo  and  MACEDO, Elizeu Coutinho de. Psychometric parameters of the Leiter-R International Performance Scale for Preschool Children. Aval. psicol. [online]. 2014, vol.13, n.1, pp.125-132. ISSN 1677-0471.

Due to the lack of psychological tests that assess preschool children and the difficulty with the assessment of individuals with developmental disorders, it is necessary the availability of instruments that can cope with this demand. In these cases, a possibility for nonverbal assessment of intelligence is the Leiter International Performance - R. The aim of this study was to verify the psychometric parameters of the Leiter-R in preschool children. Participants were 271 children between ages 3 and 6 of public schools. ANOVA showed effect of age on performance in all subtests. Positive and significant correlations of the Leiter-R with other non-verbal tests were verified. The Spearman-Brown coefficients ranged from 0.85 to 0.94 and Cronbach's Alpha between 0.81 and 0.86 for the Leiter subtests, indicated good accuracy. The results suggest good adequacy of psychometric parameters of the Leiter-R, fulfilling basic requirements that attest to the quality of the instrument for the assessment of preschool children.
