Abstract

This paper aimed to understand the experience of a group therapy for patients diagnosed with eating disorders (ED). It is descriptive and exploratory, defined methodologically as a case study. This group is open and composed of persons of both sexes. Three consecutive sessions transcribed from memory by the coordinator immediately after the end of the group meetings were selected. The collected data were organized through thematic content analysis and analyzed according to the psychoanalytic theoretical framework and scientific literature on the theme. The main topics discussed in the group were: the symptoms of ED, barriers to treatment adherence, family conflicts and resistance to change.
