Abstract

PAULA, Fernando Silva  and  TFOUNI, Leda Verdiani. Persistence of school failure: inequality and ideology. Rev. bras. orientac. prof [online]. 2009, vol.10, n.2, pp.117-127. ISSN 1984-7270.

It is essential for those working with Education, including Professional Guiders, to be aware of the issues related to school failure. It has been the object of many discussions and scientific investigations, aiming at finding an explanation, and a (definitive) solution to the problem. Taking the Pêcheutian Discourse Analysis as a point of departure, this article examined works about the topic, trying to identify some historical and social conditions which gave rise to the several interpretations about school failure, as well as the connection between those scientific works and class interests. It is concluded that all attempts to find a definitive truth about school failure fail, because there is no such theory that justifies human domination and exploitation (classes struggle).

Keywords : School failure; Class strugle; Social exclusion; Discourse analysis; Ideology.
