This article investigates the applicability of the subjective urgency clinical and institutional device in the treatment of toxicomania. Some theoretical foundations related to the use of the drug and mental states of emergency are developed for which it is recommended the use of this device. We sought to demonstrate that the crucial feature of the toxic drug addict exposes the psychic economy would be vulnerable to the occurrence of crises when facing the absence of the drug. Finally, it was understood that the subjective clinical urgency and institutional device, used by the analyst, is a legitimate resource of intervention as concerns such crisis, helping in the treatment of toxicomania. A clinical vignette was used to illustrate what was theoretically presented.
