Abstract A software can be considered educational when appropriately used in a teaching-learning relationship. The main characteristics that distinguish an educational in relation to an application software are your development based in a learning theory and the capacity that a student has to build the knowledge on a certain subject in an autonomous way. The professional education is more and more dependent of the educational softwares owed mainly to the incompatibility of the students crescent number that look for the professional formation and the existent physical resources in the universities and in the professional teaching institutions. This way, the educational softwares are an unanswerable solution, because are used in the simulation substituting real physical systems of the professional life. Besides, they are also responsible for stimulating the logical reasoning development and consequently the autonomy, because they can lift hypotheses, to do interferences and to remove conclusions starting from the presented results. © Ciências & Cognição 2006; Vol. 08: 22-28.
