This study aimed to examine how children, mothers and teachers gave meaning to the act of playing in a school that has a toy library. This itself allowed analysis reflect on the importance of space and time of play for the processes of learning and development. Information was collected through interviews and analyzed based on the input speech on Bakhtin Circle. It was found that the act of playing is seen by a dualistic logic, not being understood in relation to learning. The toy library, in its turn, presents itself as a place of contradiction as it is a time/space to play in an institution for learning. In conclusion, it is emphasized that the toy library, while it is pointed out as a place of institutionalization of the act of playing, is also considered the possibility of aesthetic learning.
