Abstract

SANTOS, Carine Valéria Mendes  and  ANTUNEZ, Andrés Eduardo Aguirre. Fatherhood affectively imprinted: modalities of interaction in father-baby relations. Arq. bras. psicol. [online]. 2018, vol.70, n.1, pp.224-238. ISSN 1809-5267.

Fatherhood has changed in contemporary families as fathers participate more actively as caregivers for their own children. This paper discusses interactions between fathers and their children in this context. Research data was gathered by observation records held in the family house over the first 3 months after birth and interviews held in the last month of pregnancy and third month of the child's life. Data analysis was based on a psychosocial perspective. Results show a new category of the fatherhood affectively imprinted, which expresses interrelations between different kinds of care provided by fathers according to their babies demands and their positions in different modalities of interaction. It should be noted that archaic and current reference in the performance of contemporary fatherhood coexist and there is a need to develop more studies about the father-baby relationship.

Keywords : Fatherhood; Infants; Father-child relations.
