Abstract

TERAN, María Antonieta Covarrubias  and  JIMENEZ, Adrián Cuevas. Autovaloración de los estilos parentales. Psicol. Am. Lat. [online]. 2013, n.24, pp.19-42. ISSN 1870-350X.

Currently, several studies have pointed out that the diversity of social and psychological discourses has led a loss of security in fathers and mothers, which has taken impact in a lot of cases, on trust to educate their children; confidence that once gave certain old traditions. This situation puts into question the parental image and educational capacity, i.e., self-assessment of its own parental style central elements governing the education of their children and who bring with them implications for child development. This work proposes self-assessment who fathers and mothers have concerning their styles of parenting, school-age children, belonging to an educational institution's middle class. The sample found that this parental assessment refers to both favorable characteristics as unfavorable for the development of their children, finding three trends regarding parental self-esteem: 1) those who are valued in a practice firm and safe; 2) some parents who perceived in a practice full of doubt and insecurity and 3) another parents who they take in practice ambivalent.

Keywords : self-assessment; parent; parents; mothers; style.
