Abstract

The purpose of the present text is specify the concept of narcissism using Psychoanalysis as a referent and to put it in motion both as its uses in psychoanalytic theory and practice are concerned. Narcissism is hereby discussed as far as its structuring and developing conditioning of the ego referring to its implementation basis and its derivation in the constitution of both the identification processes and the mandatory ones that are present in the ideals systems. Differentiations are made and discussed in the moral conscience and ethical mandates. The clinical consequences of these differentiations are also discussed. The specular reflections in the Narcissus’s myth and in Machado de Assis and Guimarães Rosa’s novels, both named “The mirror”, are used as a means of configuring and giving body to the psychoanalytical concepts formerly discussed.
