Abstract

FROCHTENGARTEN, Julio. The interpretation: limits and ruptures of concept and practice. J. psicanal. [online]. 2007, vol.40, n.73, pp.121-131. ISSN 0103-5835.

Despite the fact that interpretation is considered to be the preeminent tool by psychoanalysts, theoretical and clinic shifts that have occurred since the development of psychoanalysis, which have not yet been given due weight, have shed new light on the concept of interpretation. The author proposes to examine some of these shifts in the concept from the perspective of Freudian theory, Kleinian theory and essentially how we can comprehend the concept of interpretation from Bion’s contributions. Accomplished to his clinic, the author will finally present a session from his own clinic as an illustration of the ideas discussed in the article.

Keywords : Interpretation; Construction; Countertransference; Emotional experience; Thought; Transformations.
