Abstract

STRIEDER, Raquel Inês. Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder in municipal schools. Rev. psicopedag. [online]. 2023, vol.40, n.122, pp.191-203.  Epub June 24, 2024. ISSN 0103-8486.  https://doi.org/10.51207/2179-4057.20230017.

This research is the result of a study of the literature on Inclusive Education and subjects diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), as well as a field survey to learn about the reality of inclusion of students with ASD in municipal education belonging to the 11 municipalities that make up in the micro-region of Cerro Largo/RS. The general objective of the research was to map students with ASD assisted by the municipal education service in the micro-region of Cerro Largo - RS. The methodological approach of the research is quantitative-qualitative and the research instruments used were a bibliographical research and interviews carried out through online forms. The theoretical basis that supports the present study is mainly composed of the DSM-5 classification criteria (2014), Araújo (2019), national laws that underlie Inclusive Education and the rights of autistic people and texts by Gaiato and Teixeira (2018), Mendes (2010), Saulnier et al. (2011), and Whitman (2015). Data collection carried out in the municipalities that make up the Cerro Largo microregion reveals that there are students diagnosed with ASD in 10 municipalities, and all municipal education services face obstacles to effectively include them in the regular education classrooms. As a conclusion, it can be noted that the education systems that permeate our country lack the structure and qualified professionals to adequately care for subjects with disabilities such as ASD. Thus, the present research is an important mean for understanding the local reality regarding the way that ASD is being treated, as well as for theoretical deepening about it.
