The text introduces the reader to the recent work of Christoph Türcke and his thesis that the traumatic repetition compulsion is in the origin of culture. Türcke began this thesis in the book Excited society: Philosophy of Sensation and deepened it in The Philosophy of Dreams. From ritual sacrifice to the mark of Cain, the author presents an overview of the dialectical stages of prehistory.
