Abstract

This study had the objective to briefly present some specific instruments to measure the quality of life into the dementia, aiming to aid researchers and clinics, to select those which would be the most adequate for the cases assisted by them, as well as to point out gaps in this thematic. The review was done in 2008 through the MEDLINE/PUBMED system using a combination, in English of the following key-words: "instrument", "measure", "scale", "quality of life" and "dementia". The papers found that dealt specifically with instruments of measurements of quality of life into the dementia were separated for analysis as to the focus of the evaluation, aim-population as to the degree of dementia, application of data, considered dimensions and studies of the validity. Of the specific found just one was translated, adapted and validated for the Brazilian culture, we also noticed that a few instruments were researched for the longitudinal evaluations, pointing to important subjects that might be explored in future researches.
