The protective measure of residential care is applied, as an exceptional measure and transient in children and adolescents at risk as provided for in the Statute of Children and Adolescents. Stresses the need to increase the expertise and the priority based interventions for this specific population in order that the period of institutionalization does not contribute to developmental damage. Recently, the literature has highlighted the high incidence of depressive symptoms in this population. Thus, this study aimed to determine the incidence of depressive symptoms in a sample of children and adolescents in residential care protective measure in the city of Patos de Minas. The study included 23 children / adolescents (aged 7-16 years). Depressive symptoms were assessed using the Child Depression Inventory - Children's Depression Inventory - CDI. The results showed that 35% of children / adolescents participants had percentile considered clinically significant, and another 35% had the approximate percentile accusing depressive symptomatology. The survey results suggested profile as children / adolescents with depressive symptoms: take time to host more than 2 years, history of hospitality, not sponsors, not having brothers in the institution and be accepted after 7 years of age. This work contributed to the increase in knowledge. We emphasize the importance of studies with samples from different regions of the country to confirm or adjust the regulation proposed studies involving this issue.
