The present study gathered data related to the incidence of parricide crimes in Brazil, through news reports published online on major circulation newspapers in the country and listed on search engines on the Internet, which happened between 2005 and July of 2011. There were 246 cases gathered. The main results have showed that two thirds of parricides kill their fathers, and 86% of such crime is committed by males. Most of them commit the crime by themselves (88%) and those who are helped in the homicide are usually helped by family members (siblings, mother, husband, boyfriend, and so forth). Few resort to strangers to commit the homicide (9 cases). The most used weapon was the white weapon (55,4%), followed by firearms (17,1%) and household tools and utensils (16,3%), such as frying pans, hammer, among others. Unlike common crimes, this kind of homicide takes place preferably at home (90,2%). The reasons reported by the press are mostly futile, as arguments or mental problems. However, the field literature shows that children kill their parents due to abuse (physical, psychological, and sexual) endured in childhood. Such reasons are hardly reported to police officers and journalists when the parricide is arrested.
