Abstract

VILHENA, Junia de; BITTENCOURT, Maria Inês Garcia de Freitas; NOVAES, Joana de Vilhena  and  ZAMORA, Maria Helena. Care, maternity and temporality: rethinking the contemporary values of efficiency. Cad. psicanal. [online]. 2013, vol.35, n.28, pp.111-127. ISSN 1413-6295.

This paper intends to ponder how attention and concern for the physical and emotional well being of the baby have turned "care" into a source of anxiety, frustration and invasion of the space that is gently established in the mother-child relationship. This fact often hinders the subject´s healthy emotional development as well as his ability to deal creatively with the challenges of life. Assuming that the influence of the contemporary conception of time generates an urgency to "act", we intend to show how the increasing colonization of the family spheres by "experts" transforms parenting into an experience highlighted by insecurity, anxiety and debt.

Keywords : time; efficiency; health.
