Abstract

The way in which Ferenczi and Winnicott thought about the body and the symbolic universe provides an interesting reflection on aspects of the psychic dynamics that are involved in the musical experience. With such authors, it is possible to recognize music as a phenomenon that carries a meaning, but this is not submitted to a dimension external to the sonorous and to the sensitive. This is not necessarily representable. It is through the sensorial memory of these impressions that the music makes present the echoes of a lived experience that was forgotten but yet is marked in the body. In the body`s memory, music lends itself to everything in order to mean, express, symbolize, create, but neither of those exactly.
