Abstract

The study investigates the perceived effectiveness of transitional justice measures carried out in Argentina with respect to the political violence of the last military dictatorship (19761983). A correlational descriptive groups differences study was carried out based on a convenience sample composed by 518 participants (40.3% men and 59.7% women, mean age = 35.58 years, ; SD = 13.63). The results show a poor knowledge about the CONADEP, but also a positive valuation and perceived effectiveness of its work. Another measure of transitional justice as public apologies also exhibits low levels of knowledge, but also sincerity and effectiveness. Participants have a positive attitude towards a memory that allows to learn about what happened in the past, being the direct victims who show a greater resistance to not review the past. A low disposition to forgive is observed, regardless participants degree of victimization.
