Abstract

NUNES, Simone Regina dos Reis; SALVARO, Giovana Ilka Jacinto  and  RABELO, Giani. Gender, class and race: representations of young people about the world of work. Rev. psicol. polít. [online]. 2020, vol.20, n.48, pp.433-447. ISSN 2175-1390.

This article proposes to analyze the absence of gender, class and race debates in the field of youth social representations about the world of work. It is part of the results of a survey, conducted between 2016 and 2018, whose overall objective was to understand the configuration of the world of work and the social representations of high school students. The research was qualitative and included the participation of 55 students, from public schools on the North Coast of Rio Grande do Sul and South of Santa Catarina. Focus groups were carried out and the information was analyzed through content analysis. The absence of gender, class and race debates was discussed based on two theoretical contributions: the sociology of absences, by Boaventura de Sousa Santos; and Serge Moscovici's Theory of Social Representations. There was a need to question such absences based on constructed and naturalized social inequalities.

Keywords : Youth; Work; Gender; Class; Race.
