Abstract

Obesity, at present one of the biggest issues of Public health, brings about a number of complications for both physical and mental health of people. Losing weight is a difficult task depending not only on dieting but on an increase of physical activities and psychological assistance as well. The present study focuses on establishing whether obese women presented anxiety trace and state higher than expected. Participants of the research were 20 obese women with Body Mass Index (BMI) between 30 and 40, age group from 25 to 45, members of an eating reeducation program of a health institution in São Paulo City. The Trace State Anxiety Inventory (IDATE) was used, and applications were individual. Results showed that such an instrument did not succeed in detecting the existence of a clear relationship between anxiety trace and state and obesity, but presented high levels of apathy.
