Abstract

FRASSETTO, Silvana Soriano  and  BAKOS, Daniela Di Giorgio Schneider. Cognitive-behavioral therapy for children in a situation of marital separation: a case study. Rev. bras.ter. cogn. [online]. 2010, vol.6, n.1, pp.155-172. ISSN 1808-5687.

This is a case study of a child with phonological disorder related to family conflicts and divorce, according to the model of cognitive-behavioral therapy. It aims to describe the treatment approach performed, focusing on the therapeutic alliance established with the patient, the cognitive and behavioral techniques used and the results of the therapeutic process. The therapeutic management was based primarily on play activities, drawings, technical role-play and interventions with the parents. At the end of 20 sessions with the child and six with the parents, positive changes could be observed in the child, such as greater acceptance of the separation process and an improved relationship with parents. Moreover, parents established a healthy dialogue, enhancing their understanding of the importance of a psychologically healthy environment for the development of the child. To enable such changes in this initial period of development is extremely important, since they directly affect the schematic construction of the individual, which occurs from the interaction between child, family and other environments in which it operates.
