Abstract

ARAUJO, Jose Newton Garcia de. Work and uses of the subjectivity. Arq. bras. psicol. [online]. 2012, vol.64, n.2, pp.35-46. ISSN 1809-5267.

This article questions the hypothesis that managerial strategies which take into consideration the subjectivity of the worker would be essentially libertarian. Historical situations are discussed, previously to the advent of the capitalism, in colonial Brazil and in France of the 18th century, in which the worker's subjectivity was instrumentally mobilized. Elton Mayo's researches are seen as a special moment when the conservative industrial psychology "discovers" the subjectivity. Foucault's reflexion that the exercise of power supposes the use of liberty are also discussed in the context of the managerial practices. He examines the theory of human capital and the entrepreneurship ideology as new ways to influence the subjectivity, when the salaried society goes into crisis. Throughout this trajectory, the author argues that the mobilization of the subjectivity also has an anti-libertarian intention.

Keywords : Work; Uses of the subjectivity; Exploitation of worker.
