Abstract

OSORIO, Juan Manuel Piña. College students to diversity. Homosexual Meanings. Psicol. Am. Lat. [online]. 2014, n.27, pp.66-92. ISSN 1870-350X.

This paper aims to present the statements made by university students about sexual diversity. The information was obtained through means of an instrument of word association to the inductive term homosexual. The students were asked to write down three associated terms, to rank depending on importance, and to explain their decision. This instrument was applied to students in the Mexican Central Region. Results showed that slightly more than 50% of the sample wrote down words of acceptance, respect, inclusion and acknowledgement. By contrast, 25% wrote down negative homophobic terms, associating them to feminine or hyper-sexual meanings. All other terms regarded tolerance, but emphasized an adverse and plaintive scenario towards homosexuals.

Keywords : Students; sexual diversity; homophobia; exclusion.
