Abstract

HERENIO, Alexandre Castelo Branco  and  ZANINI, Daniela Sacramento. Suicidal Ideation and Attempts in Adolescents. Psicol. Am. Lat. [online]. 2020, n.34, pp.233-243. ISSN 1870-350X.

This study aims to describe and analyze the ideation and attempted suicide rates among a sample of adolescents in the city of Goiânia. We also analyzed the relationship between ideation and attempted suicide of adolescents with self-reported behavior problems. For this purpose, a sample of 240 adolescents aged 12 to 18 years old was surveyed through the Youth Self Report. The results Indicate that Goiania has a suicidal ideation index lower than that found in other studies, and attempt suicide index higher than that found in other studies, for the sample of Goiânia's adolescents. This Suggests an impulsive feature of suicidal behavior of adolescents in this city. Moreover, a statistically significant relationship between ideation and suicide attempt and all problem behavior was found and the adolescents who reported problem behavior shows significatively more suicide ideation and attempt comparing to other adolescents.
