The Brazilian Psychiatric Reform was driven by the popular organization to question the hegemonic asylum model and point out new care possibilities. Social participation is not restricted to established formal spaces and political formation has a fundamental role in the construction of a critical-reflective process. The article brings the experience of political training in mental health as a possible vector of social transformations, a qualitative study in the form of an experience report, intending to analyze the experience and developments of two editions of the Anti-Asylum Training School of Recife and Metropolitan Region. Data analysis was based on the experience systematization method proposed by Holliday. The School is a powerful instrument in the struggle for Psychiatric Reform, which can be appropriated and adapted to different contexts in terms of strengthening the role of users of mental health services.
