Abstract

CORDEIRO, Mariana Prioli. Bibliometry and social network analysis: methodological possibilities for a social psychology of science. Gerais, Rev. Interinst. Psicol. [online]. 2009, vol.2, n.1, pp.23-33. ISSN 1983-8220.

In this article, we aimed to present the contributions and limitations of Bibliometry and Social Network Analysis (SNA) to a Social Psychology of Science. We analyzed essays on these methodologies and we concluded that bibliometry and SNA are very useful to put in practice a critical Social Psychology of Science because they allow us to understand the power relations of a scientific field, to identify the invisible colleges and to present graphically the different relations among the actors of a scientific discipline. In doing so, they allow us to understand science as a collective phenomenon which guides our view of the world and of ourselves as well as our professional practice.

Keywords : Social Psychology of Science; Bibliometry; Social Network Analysis; Construcionism.
