Abstract

CAPUCHO, Mariana Carneiro  and  JARDIM, Adriano Pereira. Pomeranians and violence: the perception of descendants of Pomeranians immigrants about the high rate of suicide and homicide in the Community of Santa Maria de Jetibá. Gerais, Rev. Interinst. Psicol. [online]. 2013, vol.6, n.1, pp.36-53. ISSN 1983-8220.

This paper investigated the perception of descendants of Pomeranian immigrants about the high rate of suicide and homicide in the community of a municipality in the interior of Espirito Santo state. The qualitative method of phenomenology was used to interview the subjects, who were over 30 years old, residing in the city under study and speaking Portuguese. The analysis of 15 interviews given by the research subjects allowed one to relate actual factors to the aggression discussed throughout the study. It is possible to conclude that the Pomeranians present themselves as a more introspective people, suspicious and depressed than just aggressive. As to the factors related, alcoholism, drug abuse and lack of social support appear as social indicators.

Keywords : Violence; Suicide; Homicide; Phenomenology; Pomeranians.
