This study investigated the symptoms of Secondary Traumatic Stress (STS) and working characteristics of psychologists from the health area. A total of 138 psychologists participated of this research answering three online questionnaires about post-traumatic stress disorder and secondary trauma. Data analysis was carried out using SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences). The results showed that the STS personality scale had significant correlation with age and hours worked. We observed that it is possible that younger professionals pose a higher risk for STS when combined with the positive characteristics of personality. Professionals with characteristics such as empathy, satisfaction, ability to understand and challenge can feel involved and motivated with their work. Therefore, the positive personality aspects may be a factor that makes them vulnerable to STS.
