This study presents the results of a research conducted in Porto Alegre that investigated the relationship between alcohol consumption and paternal drinking habits. The study aims to analyze the association between father’s drinking habits and alcohol consumption patterns. The sample was composed by 473 participants, 289 of them had no alcoholic history, 42 were alcoholics under ambulatory treatment and 142 were hospitalized alcoholic patients. Results showed a strong association between paternal and person’s drinking habits, reinforcing the idea that paternal alcohol consumption can be a risky factor regarding alcoholism.
