Abstract

SARTORI, Fernanda Argentini; NORONHA, Ana Paula Porto  and  NUNES, Maiana Farias Oliveira. Comparisons between EAP and SDS: Professional interests in middle school students. Bol. psicol [online]. 2009, vol.59, n.130, pp.17-29. ISSN 0006-5943.

Psychological instruments used in professional guidance aim at helping people in their self-knowledge and to compare personal aspects and professional activities. The purpose of the present research was to analyze mean differences between two instruments: Escala de Aconselhamento Profissional (EAP - Professional Counseling Scale) and Self-Directed Search Career Explorer (SDS), regarding sex and school grade. 177 middle school students from four private schools in the state of São Paulo, 44.6% men and 55.4% women, with ages varying from 14 to 19 years old have taken part in the research. Mean differences did not differ significantly for school grades, but gender showed significant differences in both tests. The potential use of these tests in professional guidance are discussed.

Keywords : Professional guidance; Psychological assessment; Interests tests.
