Abstract

LOLI, Maria Salete Arenales; ABRAO, Jorge Luís Ferreira  and  TARDIVO, Leila Salomão de la Plata Cury. The use of imagination in psychodiagnostic and psychotherapy for adolescents. Bol. psicol [online]. 2016, vol.66, n.144, pp.79-97. ISSN 0006-5943.

Adolescents are between adulthood and childhood, living their experiences in a different way, which requires adjustment of techniques in the psychotherapeutic process, because they are not consistent with play approach for children and neither with a verbal approach for adults. Therefore, the Time Tunnel mediation game was created, composed by 165 incomplete phrases representing the past, present and future, and a "Chance" element to offer up fictional situations to motivate the imagination of the patient. In a clinical study, carried out through individual psychotherapeutic processes, it was verified the necessity to combine this approach, via "magical powers" and the "what if" expressions, with adapted play material for the age group. Thus, a fruitful resource has been obtained for the psychodiagnostic and intervention processes for adolescents. Inducing the use of the imagination in the adolescent, an opportunity is given in anxiety episodes, helping to name the situation when other methods have not worked

Keywords : Psychotherapy in adolescence; imagination; mediation game.
