Abstract

MENDES, Eliana Rodrigues Pereira. Anxiety and the fading subject. Reverso [online]. 2009, vol.31, n.57, pp.71-75. ISSN 0102-7395.

Working with a short story from English Literature, the author approaches the main character’ s anguish. When confronted with the question “What do you want from me?” this female character feels overwhelmed by the Other’s desire and fades as a subject of her own desire. The kindness towards other people that appears as a symptom of a devastating enjoyment, can be better understood as a form of acting out.

Keywords : Anxiety; Fading of the subject; Other’s desire; Subject of her own desire; Acting out; Enjoyment.
