Abstract

ALVES, William Selau  and  LAZZARINI, Eliana Rigotto. An analysis of the self in times of virtuality and isolation: psychoanalytic reflections. J. psicanal. [online]. 2020, vol.53, n.98, pp.123-139. ISSN 0103-5835.

Extracted from an ongoing Master's research, this paper examines the concept of the self in psychoanalysis based on the theory of narcissism, marking the participation of virtual technologies in the processes of communication and subjective exchanges today. Based on the psychoanalytic view of the self as a unit that is constantly updated, we consider that the relationship with virtual technologies encourages a return to primary ideals, especially by valuing regular attitudes of exposure of intimacy. Finally, we demonstrate the presence of these phenomena in the culture and in the psychoanalytic clinic, with clippings that illustrate demands of reality that allude to helplessness, such as what is emphasized by social isolation in view of the coronavirus pandemic.

Keywords : narcissism; self; technology; helplessness; isolation.
