INTRODUCTION: Understanding space is needed for the individual may have several opportunities to exploit size, direction and position in space, allowing the individual to interpret and understand objects classifying them and arranging them according to their properties. From these considerations, this paper aims to present the research conducted between the years 2007 to 2009 for the dissertation in education, presented to the postgraduate Program in Education State University of Maringá whose aim was to verify the influence of constructivist pedagogical intervention with emphasis on psycho motor area and awareness of action on extension of topological concepts of children 4-5 years Early Childhood Education. The data were related to the changes in the construction of topological notions, as well as awareness of these concepts by the children investigated. Therefore, we analyzed the interviews in which the children performed the activities. RESULTS: The results showed that the process of awareness of the children were able to change their cognitive structures in relation to the topological concepts, that are considered fundamental for the development of self-knowledge, of autonomy and intentionality of actions for the initial series.
