Abstract

PERRONE-MOISES, Cláudia. The limits of forgiveness: Hannah Arendt and Jacques Derrida. Rev. bras. psicanál [online]. 2014, vol.48, n.4, pp.143-148. ISSN 0486-641X.

This essay has as its aim the comparison of the ideas of Hannah Arendt and Jacques Derrida on forgiveness. Both authors dealt with the theme, based on discussions derived from crimes against humanity, analyzing the possibilities of punishment and of forgiveness towards such behavior. Taking as a starting point distinct ideas surrounding these possibilities, some recurrences can, however, be found between the lines of thought, which lead us to equivalent propositions or, in other cases, to a fruitful dialogue for the reflection on the limits of forgiveness.

Keywords : forgiveness; punishment; unforgivable; crimes against humanity; truth commissions.
