Abstract

SIMANKE, Richard Theisen. Beyond good and evil: some comments on the psychoanalytic view of hatred. Rev. bras. psicanál [online]. 2019, vol.53, n.1, pp.125-148. ISSN 0486-641X.

This paper sets out to discuss the psychoanalytic perspective of hatred from its instinctive origins to its intersubjective manifestations. To this end, the author analyses Freud's explanations of hatred and the role hatred plays in mental life. Contributions of post-Freudian authors are also explored, especially with respect to the understanding of the manifestations of hatred in the context of object relations and intersubjectivity. These contributions provide additional elements for the distinction between pathological and destructive manifestations of hatred, and their adaptive and constructive functions in mental life. Finally, the author concludes his studies with the implications of this approach for the psychoanalytic view of human nature.

Keywords : Freud; hatred; aggression; narcissism; helplessness.
