Abstract

CALLEJAS, Gemma Roco; LOPEZ, Graciela Baldi  and  ALVAREZ, Graciela. Afrontamiento y Alexitimia en una muestra de mujeres víctimas de violencia familiar en San Luis, Argentina. Altern. psicol. [online]. 2013, vol.17, n.29, pp.32-43. ISSN 1405-339X.

Battering is an ancient problem; however, nowadays it is again an issue of considerable concern as its victims become aware that their rights are being violated. Since the 70s and 80s, numerous investigations are being conducted due to the increase of individuals suffering from domestic violence. The objective of this work is to explore coping strategies and alexithymia in a group of 50 women victims of violence in San Luis city. The results show the use of both passive coping strategies - such as prayers, resignation, etc. - which would not let the victims escape the circle of violence, and those strategies aimed at resolving the problem and at seeking a supportive inner environment. In addition, most of the women mentioned having difficulties in recognizing and verbalizing their own emotions and feelings.

Keywords : violence; coping strategies; alexithymia; women.
