Abstract

AGUIAR, Carolina Villa Nova  and  BASTOS, Antonio Virgilio Bittencourt. Work and family interfaces: Conceptual and empirical issues. Estud. psicol. (Natal) [online]. 2018, vol.23, n.3, pp.212-223. ISSN 1413-294X.  https://doi.org/10.22491/1678-4669.20180021.

The study of the interfaces between work and family can occur from two opposing perspectives: on one hand, we have the approach to work-family conflict, traditional line of research that considers that the demands arising from work and family are in general incompatible; on the other hand, we have a perspective that considers that the accumulation of occupational and family roles may be beneficial for individuals. This article aimed to characterize the two main theoretical perspectives that dominate research on work-family interfaces, highlighting how conceptual problems still present in both aspects translate into measurement problems, especially in the spraying of measurement instruments. It is considered that the study was able to point out important directions for future researches involving the interfaces between work and family, so as to contribute to the development of the area.

Keywords : work; family; conflict; equilibrium.
