Abstract

COSTA-MOURA, Fernanda. The unconscious between the cause and its effects. Psyche (Sao Paulo) [online]. 2006, vol.10, n.19, pp.81-94. ISSN 1415-1138.

The article deals with the association between cause and Unconscious as proposed by Lacan and its relation to psychoanalysis. Starting from the philosophical discussion issued mainly by Kant and Hume, referred by Lacan in the context of his 11 th Seminar, it discusses the role of the cause as a central element for the understanding of the concept of Unconscious and therefore of the whole psychoanalytical field. Considered as a hiatus that concerns the relations the subject has with the language, the cause reveals that both the concept and the field that Freud uncovered rely on an operation that is bound to the subject’s act.

Keywords : Cause; Unconscious; Hiatus; Subject; Science; Language.
