Abstract

POLIANA  BARBOSA, Gonçalves. Cultural insertion as an occasion to produce new cultural elements . IGT rede [online]. 2013, vol.10, n.18, pp.01-15. ISSN 1807-2526.

The relationship between individual and culture has been studied by psychologists, sociologists, anthropologists, biologists, among others. This paper aims to describe what we mean by culture, how it is transmitted and guides us in the world, besides the process by which we (individuals) produce culture. For this, we turn to a theoretical work supported by classical authors who previously discussed it. We describe the culture possessing a universal structure, but also able to present specificity and dynamicity according to each group. Its transmission is active and happens through generations by traditions, rituals, habits, or even through writing. The individual embedded in a cultural context, full of meaning, can produce culture by its positioning. This lets the people responsible for the construction of their culture once it implies them on this positioning and doesn’t set them as victims of an external force which determines their behavior and blocks their awareness.

Keywords : Culture; cultural insertion; positioning; cultural production; phenomenology.
