Abstract

FLORES-MENDOZA, Carmen; WIDAMAN, Keith F.; BACELAR, Tatiane Dias  and  LELE, Álvaro José. Psychometric properties of the Standard Progressive Matrices in the Minas Gerais State. Arq. bras. psicol. [online]. 2014, vol.66, n.2, pp.1-16. ISSN 1809-5267.

The psychometric parameters of the Standard Progressive Matrices of Raven (SPM) test for Minas Gerais state were investigated. 1956 people aged between 07 and 65 were the participants. The analysis of the items through the Item Response Theory, Model 2P, showed appropriate levels of difficulty and discrimination of all items except for item E12, which was extremely difficult. The test information function indicated that the SPM test was relatively easily to carry out by the sample of Minas Gerais. The Flynn effect, or cognitive gains of generation, may be the factor responsible. However, the prediction of school performance (criterion validity) using the SPM test is still possible. Implications for professional use are discussed.
